We believe great skincare takes time. Every Homestead Tallow product is handcrafted in small batches using thoughtfully selected ingredients and tallow from our own grass fed cattle. Because we make our products in limited quantities, some items may sell out. If they do, simply reserve yours and we'll let you know when the next batch is ready.

Why is your tallow different?

Unlike many tallow skincare products that purchase rendered tallow from suppliers, we use tallow made from the suet of our own grass fed cattle. From the farm to the finished product, every step is completed with care, allowing us to create a truly local, handcrafted skincare collection.

What is tallow?

Tallow is a traditional skincare ingredient made from rendered beef fat. Our products are crafted using tallow from the suet of our own grass fed cattle, then carefully triple rendered to create a clean, smooth base for our skincare collection.

What does triple rendered mean?

Triple rendering is the process of slowly purifying the tallow three times to remove impurities and create a clean, creamy texture. The result is a premium quality tallow that's ideal for skincare.

Why use tallow in skincare?

Tallow contains naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with fatty acids that closely resemble the oils found in our own skin. Many people appreciate tallow for its rich, nourishing feel and the way it leaves skin feeling soft and moisturized.

Will it feel greasy?

Not necessarily. A little goes a long way. Our tallow products are designed to absorb well into the skin, leaving it feeling soft and nourished without a heavy finish.

Does it smell like beef?

No. Our tallow is triple rendered to create a clean, neutral base. Any scent comes from the essential oils used in specific products or, in the case of our unscented products, very little scent at all

Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?

Everyone's skin is different. We recommend reviewing the ingredient list and performing a small patch test before first use, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies. That being said, tallow has been known to benefit sensitive skin and certain skin conditions such as eczema.

How should I store my products?

Store your products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and excessive heat. Because our products are made with natural ingredients, warmer temperatures may soften the texture without affecting quality.

What if the product I want is sold out?

Our products are handcrafted in small batches, so some items may sell out from time to time. If that happens, simply join the waitlist on the product page and we'll let you know as soon as it's available again.
